The career of an American icon came to a close on Sunday, when Betty White passed away at the age of 99. Although her acting range was limited to comedic roles and supporting parts in TV comedies such as “The Golden Girls” and “Bewitched,” she became one of America’s most adored actresses through her work with many charities.
Betty White, a Hollywood icon who has appeared in many popular television shows and movies, died on April 8th at the age of 99. She was a household name for decades and is still considered one of the most influential actresses of all time.

Betty White, who was 99 years old at the time of her death, has passed away.
‘Even though Betty was set to turn 100, I felt she would live forever,’ her agent and close friend Jeff Witjas said in a statement to People magazine.
‘I’ll miss her greatly, as will the animal world, which she adored.’ Betty never seemed to be afraid of dying since she always wanted to be with her loving husband Allen Ludden. She was certain that she would see him again.’
White passed away only a few weeks before her 100th birthday, on January 17.
The actress died only days after giving an interview to People magazine as she reached her 100th birthday, saying, ‘I’m so happy to be in such wonderful health and feel so well at my age.’ It’s incredible.’
With her first professional employment in the entertainment sector in 1939, the American TV and film legend leaves behind a career that spans 75 years.
With the onset of WWII, White’s career was almost cut short when she joined the American Women’s Voluntary Services to assist the soldiers – but she subsequently returned.
Her bright demeanor, quick sense of humour, and can-do attitude to do anything have earned her the title of America’s grandma.
White’s career was also innovative, since she was one of the first women in the business to star in and create her own television program, Life with Elizabeth, in 1952.

She was awarded honorary Mayor of Hollywood in 1955 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1988.
Her most well-known roles to date include The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1973–1977) and, perhaps most notably, Golden Girls (1985–1992).
White was nominated for 17 Emmys and won 11 for her portrayal of the naive but endearing Rose Nylund in both the original series and its short-lived spin-off, The Golden Palace, a character she portrayed for a total of 208 episodes.
In recent years, the actress’s cheeky sense of humour has been put to good use, and she has often played the straight-talking yet endearing grandmother.

This includes her involvement in The Proposal in 2009 with Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, her appearance in a Superbowl commercial for Snickers (in which she is attacked by rugby players), and her regular appearances on programs such as Saturday Night Live.
White returned to television after a succession of voice performances, including roles in Pound Puppies, Ponyo, and The Wild Thornberries.
She’s been on series like Boston Legal, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Hot in Cleveland on a regular basis.

White achieved the Guinness World Record for the longest television career for a female performer in 2013, surpassing the late Bruce Forsyth, who held the male record until his death in 2017.
She had previously said emphatically that she would never retire, saying, “Retirement is not in my lexicon.” They won’t be able to get rid of me in this manner.’
She had three husbands in her personal life: Dick Barker, whom she married in 1945 and divorced five months later; Lane Allen, whom she married from 1947 to 1949; and Password presenter Allen Ludden, whom she married in 1963.
