England were playing Hungary at Wembley Stadium in an international friendly match. The game had just began when a group of fans invaded the pitch and clashed with security staff.

Early in the game, fans fought with stewards and police.

In the first minutes of Hungary’s World Cup qualifier against England at Wembley on Tuesday, supporters clashed with police.

As England players took the knee before kick-off, some of their fans, numbering in the thousands, booed.

“Officers entered the stand to arrest a spectator for a racially aggravated public order offence in connection to remarks made against a steward,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

“Minor disturbance erupted as police conducted the arrest.”

After Roland Sallai’s penalty, John Stones equalized for England, bringing the game to a 1-1 draw.

The Football Association said that it will examine the event and report it to Fifa.

At the moment, England manager Gareth Southgate had no idea how serious the events were.

“I’m only hearing this because I’m doing the interviews,” he said after the game on Radio 5 Live. “There was a commotion, and I was aware of it. It does not seem to be appropriate, but I have not examined the details.”

Soon after the game began, Hungary fans – many wearing the black T-shirts of the country’s ultras – fought with stewards, and police came, striking supporters with batons.

In reaction, several climbed over a barrier and assaulted security officers, prompting police to retreat into the concourse.

When the teams met in Budapest, Fifa ordered Hungary to play two games behind closed doors as a result of the bigotry faced by English players.

“There are approximately 1,000 Hungary supporters in one area,” Radio 5 Live commentator John Murray claimed. To keep England fans out, black netting was placed above the seats on each side.

“We were informed before that the tickets had been grabbed by all Hungary supporters in the United Kingdom.” There were some very frightening moments as soon as the contest started.

“In the grandstand, there were individuals wearing hi-vis jackets and fighting.” There were a few punches thrown. It was really combative.

“Many of the fans were dressed in black. For the first half hour or so, there was a lot of chaos, but then things began to calm down.”

After Sallai’s penalty put Hungary ahead in the 24th minute, a smoke bomb was also detonated.

For this game, which is a rematch of last month’s match at Puskas Arena, less than 1,000 tickets were sold to Hungary supporters.

In that qualification, England players were subjected to racist insults, as well as being pelted with items and having a flare thrown on the field by Hungarian supporters in the second half. Following England’s 4-0 victory, Fifa initiated disciplinary procedures.

Despite the fact that Uefa ordered Hungary to play three home games behind closed doors as a result of their supporters’ racist behavior at Euro 2020, they were permitted to attend the World Cup match since it was within Fifa’s control.

Hungary was subsequently forced to play two games behind closed doors, one of which was postponed for two years, and the Hungarian Football Federation was fined £158,400.

When England lost to Italy in the Euro 2020 final on July 11, there was also controversy at Wembley.

Before the match, England supporters clashed with stewards and police as they tried to burst past gates.

Following that, as many exited the stadium, riot police could be seen smashing through masses.

Beer bottles were hurled amid anti-Italian shouts, and the Metropolitan Police claimed 45 arrests were made during the final, with 19 police wounded “when confronting violent groups.”

The FA has been subjected to disciplinary action by Uefa as a result of the incidents.
