On Saturday, Odell Beckham Jr. took part in his first practice with the Los Angeles Rams, and afterward, he told reporters that signing with them “just felt right.”
“I spent a lot of time making decisions, and it wasn’t for the sake of building suspense or anything,” he said. “This is my life, and I’ve had a lot of experiences. I’ve devoted and sacrificed a lot to get to this stage in my life where I’m ready to play football. It just so happened that this resonated with my heart and soul.”
Following his release by the Cleveland Browns on Monday, Beckham cleared waivers and signed a one-year deal with the Rams.
With quarterback Matthew Stafford’s 23 throwing touchdowns, the Rams have the NFL’s third-best offense, averaging 28 points per game. The Rams are 7-2 and will play in Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 13 at owner Stan Kroenke’s $5 billion SoFi Stadium.
“This is a fantastic group,” Beckham stated. “I have a fantastic chance to achieve some fantastic things, and all I want to do is be a part of it.”
Beckham said he’s not sure whether he’ll play Monday against the division foe San Francisco 49ers (3-5), who have beaten the Rams four times in a row.
“At the moment, that’s up to Coach [Sean McVay],” Beckham stated. “Right now, I’m trying to figure out how to learn the playbook as quickly as possible, and if there’s anything more he wants me to do, I’m always up for it.”
Following the news on Saturday that teammate Robert Woods had suffered a season-ending knee injury the day before, Beckham recognized a greater feeling of pressure to adjust. He joins a group that includes Cooper Kupp, the NFL’s top receiver, and Van Jefferson, a second-year player.
“These guys have a lot of energy,” Beckham added. “The offense simply seems natural… but I’m hoping to develop a rhythm and help this squad find ways to win.”
As he presented himself to teammates, Beckham claims he felt like the new kid in school. However, he said that a phone conversation from buddies Von Miller and Jalen Ramsey, whom the Rams acquired ahead of the trade deadline earlier this month, aided his decision-making.
“It undoubtedly played a part. You want to be in a place where you are liked, desired, and accepted “According to Beckham. “When I received the call, Von and Jalen and all those lads, the receivers, gave me that sensation. It seemed right in my gut, and it’s something you have to trust your instincts on.”
Beckham was also considering the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, and Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN sources.
On Saturday, the receiver took some time to compose a letter to the Browns and their supporters.
