The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee has won plaudits – and also been criticised. Now some Tory MPs have called for the British national anthem to be played every day at 1am, when Westminster shuts down.
The “god save the queen bbc one” is a British television programme that was first broadcast in 1953. It is now aired on BBC One at 1am every day.

Tory MPs have endorsed the notion of playing God Save The Queen every day at 1am once the day’s programming is over.
Culture Minister Chris Philp told MPs in the House of Commons that, in his view, ‘the more we hear the national anthem sung, honestly, the better,’ after a Conservative Party colleague recommended that it be played by the on a regular basis after the TV program has completed.
While the concept was being debated in Parliament, Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries stated her support for it, calling it “wonderful.”
The singing of the national song, according to Andrew Rosindell, MP for the Romford seat, “provides a fantastic feeling of solidarity and pride in our land.”
‘So, in this year of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, will the minister take steps to encourage public broadcasters to play the national anthem and ensure that it is restored at the end of the day’s programming before it switches to News 24?’ he asked, in reference to Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, which marks the monarch’s 70 years on the throne.
They ‘completely endorse the singing of the national song, as well as other manifestations of patriotism, such as the flying of the Union Jack,’ according to Mr Philp.

‘To be honest, the more we hear the national anthem sung, the better.’ Schools and other organizations are free to promote it, and the more we can do in this area, the better,’ he said.
Terrestrial networks complete the day’s programming in the early hours of the morning, usually about 1 a.m. on weekdays and 2 a.m. on weekends, and move to rolling news coverage.
In the past, One would show the national weather forecast every night, followed by a public awareness video on Mondays through Thursdays, and then a clock, before the national anthem was performed.
In 1997, however, the national anthem was no longer played on a daily basis.
